Configuring the Friendbuy MCP in Claude and ChatGPT

The Friendbuy MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way to connect AI assistants like ChatGPT or Claude directly to your Friendbuy data and program information. The Friendbuy MCP empowers you to ask questions and get accurate, real-time answers about your Referral, Loyalty and Influencer programs. Follow the configuration steps below in ChatGPT or Claude to get started.

Why Use the Friendbuy MCP?

The Friendbuy MCP enables you to:

  • Make informed decisions with up-to-date information at your fingertips
  • Save time by reducing back-and-forth with various teams for routine program questions

Configuring the Friendbuy MCP in ChatGPT

  1. In your ChatGPT application go to Settings > Security and login
  2. Enable Developer mode and then close the Settings window
  3. Navigate to Workplace Settings > Apps
  4. In the top right corner, click "+ Create"
  5. In the New App window enter the following details and then click Create:
    1. Name: Friendbuy MCP
    2. Connection: https://mcp.fbot.me/mcp
    3. Checkmark: "I understand and want to continue"
  6. Your new App should be available in the Drafts tab. If you do not see the App in the Drafts tab, wait a few moments and refresh the page.
  7. Click Publish to review both potential risk sections and click Publish again after checking the boxes in each section to publish the custom app privately to your workspace
  8. In the top left, click Back to chat to exit workspace settings
  9. In the left navigation menu, click Plugins
  10. Select the Friendbuy workspace and the Friendbuy MCP plugin
  11. In the top right, click the "..." menu and select Manage
  12. Click Connect then Connect to Friendbuy which will redirect you to Friendbuy
  13. Log in to your Friendbuy account
  14. You will be redirected to the Authorize ChatGPT consent screen, click Approve
  15. Back in ChatGPT, close the plugin modal
  16. In the top left, click New chat
  17. Test the Friendbuy plugin with a referral query, such as "@Friendbuy tell me about my referral campaigns"

Configuring the Friendbuy MCP in Claude

  1. In your Claude application navigate to Settings > Connectors
  2. In the Connectors settings click Add > Add custom connector
  3. In the Add custom connector settings window define the following then click add:
    Name: Friendbuy
    Remote MCP Server URL: https://mcp.fbot.me/mcp
  4. Click Connect to connect to the Friendbuy MCP which will redirect you to login to your Friendbuy Retailer account
  5. After logging in you will be prompted to Authorize Claude, click Approve
  6. After approving you should see the Friendbuy MCP as a Connector within Claude. You can then close the Connectors settings window.
  7. In a new chat, Test the Friendbuy Connector with a referral query, such as "Tell me about my company's campaigns"
