How to Send Coupon Codes Through Braze SMS to Advocates and Friends After They Are Distributed by Friendbuy

Overview

When Friendbuy distributes a reward to an Advocate or a Referred Friend, the corresponding coupon code is added as a custom attribute on the user's Braze profile. This allows Braze to send an SMS message immediately after reward distribution that includes each individual’s unique coupon code.

This guide walks through how to send those coupon codes through Braze SMS using Canvas.

SMS Consent Laws vary by region. It is important to ensure you are in compliance with all applicable regulations before sending SMS messages.

Before You Start

Because Braze Canvas supports one entry trigger per Canvas, you must build a separate Canvas for each reward event, including:

  • Advocate Reward Earned
  • Friend Incentive Reward Earned
  • Loyalty Reward Earned

This example focuses on the Advocate Reward Earned event, but setup is identical for any of the reward events once the correct trigger is selected.

Step 1: Create a New Campaign

1. Navigate to Canvas

In Braze:

  • Open Canvas
  • Click Create Canvas
2. Choose Build From Scratch

Select Start a New Canvas

3. Name Your Canvas

Advocate Reward Coupon Code SMS

Step 2: Set the Entry Type

Click Save.

Step 3: Set the Entry Audience

  1. Target Users By Segment
  1. Add Additional Filters
  2. Add Exit Criteria

This adds your outbound message to the Canvas.

Step 4: Configure Send Settings

Step 5: Build and Launch Your Canvas

Add and configure your SMS Message
Review your Canvas Settings and Launch the Canvas
  • Click Launch Canvas
  • Review all settings
  • Confirm launch

Your SMS coupon delivery flow is now live. Any Advocate or Referred Friend who receives a reward from Friendbuy and meets SMS consent criteria will immediately receive a personalized SMS containing their coupon code.
