How to Change Your Referral Offer

Overview

Throughout your time using the Referral program, you may find times where you are needing to update the referral offer for limited-time campaigns or simply making changes to your Referral program offer strategy. In this help article, we'll discuss how to change your Advocate Reward, Friend Incentive, Referral Emails, and additional settings to get all set up with your new offer!

Note: To ensure a smooth transition to a new referral offer, please be sure to reach out to your Customer Success Manager or support@friendbuy.com to ensure that all changes have been made successfully. This help article does not cover changes to the widget design, which should be discussed with your Customer Success Manager prior to making any changes to the referral campaign.

Part 1: Changing the Advocate Reward Amount

Step 1

Navigate to Referral and then select Edit next to your live campaign's name.

Step 2

Select the Advocate Reward tab from the top menu bar in the Campaign.

Step 3 (Optional)

Within the Reward Settings section, if applicable, you can change how the Advocate will be rewarded and when to trigger the Reward distribution.

If changing how the Rewards will be distributed, within the How will you reward your Advocates? dropdown menu, select one of the available options. You can learn more about the available options by clicking here.

Note: If selecting the Shopify Coupons option or the Account Credit option, you will need to specify if the new discount will either be a percentage off or a fixed amount, as well as the currency type (if applicable).
Note: If selecting either the regular Coupon Code option or the Gift Card option, you will need to specify which Code Bank you would like the codes/gift cards to be distributed from. If no Code Bank is available in the dropdown list, you will need to create a Code Bank for the new Reward amount.
Step 4 (optional)

Under the Reward Rules section, you can also change the minimum purchase amount required, if applicable.

You've now finished changing the Advocate Reward amount! While there are other fields in this Advocate Rewards tab, this will cover the majority of what might need to be updated for a simple change in offer amount. To learn more about all of the available options under this tab, please click here.

Part 2: Changing the Friend Incentive Amount

Step 1

Select the Friend Incentive tab from the top menu bar in the Campaign.

Step 2

Within the Incentive Settings section, you can change how the Friend will be incentivized and when to trigger the Incentive distribution, if applicable.

If changing how the Referred Friends will be incentivized, under the How will you incentivize referred Friends? dropdown menu, select one of the available options. You can learn more about the available options by clicking here.

Note: If selecting the Shopify Coupons option, you will need to specify if the discount will either be a percentage off or a fixed amount, as well as the currency type (if applicable).

Part 3: Updating the Referral Emails with the New Offer

Step 1

Select the Emails tab from the left-side menu.

Step 2

There are three emails that would need to be updated if changing both your Advocate Reward and your Friend Incentive: Advocate Share Email, Friend Incentive Email, and Advocate Reward Email. Be sure to also check the Advocate Thanks For Sharing Email content is accurate, if applicable.

Note: If you're only changing the Advocate Reward offer, only the Advocate Share Email and the Advocate Reward Email would need to be updated. If you're only changing the Friend Incentive offer, only the Friend Incentive Email would need to be updated.

All emails being actively used in your current campaign are notated by a campaign name under the Campaign(s) column.
Step 3

Click Edit next to the email of your choice that you'd need to update. You will find three fields for each email that would need to updated: Subject Line, Text Body, and HTML Body.

Step 4

Using your keyboard, press CMD + F if on Mac, or CTRL + F if you are on Windows. We'll be using this to find every mentioned instance of the old offer to easily find and make the changes as necessary. Using the browser Search function that appears after using the specified key combination, type in the old offer amount.

Step 5

Using the up and down arrows in the browser search function, locate each mention of the old offer in your current referral email and update the offer amount as necessary when found. Alternatively, you can use an email merge variable {{reward.amount}} to automatically insert the offer amount.

Step 6

Once all mentions of the old referral offer have been updated, press Publish Changes. Please note that pressing this will automatically push the updated email live to your published referral campaign.

You've now finished making the updates to the Referral Emails! There's only a few steps left before the changes to the referral offer have been finalized.

Part 4: Updating the Default OG Tags

Step 1

Select the Developers tab from the top menu bar in the Campaign.

Step 2

Under the Default OG Tags section, update any mention of the old referral offer to the new amount. This section updates the headline and the description of the referral offer when a PURL has been shared online, such as on Social Media.

Part 5: Updating the Widget Themes

You've now successfully updated the campaign settings and emails to match your new referral offer. All that would be left to update would be to select the new widget themes that have been put together by our team.

Step 1

Select the Widgets tab from the top menu bar in the Campaign.

Step 2

Select the widget(s) that would need to be updated, and click Select Widget to choose the widget theme for the new referral offer.

Step 3

Select the new widget theme for the new referral offer. Your Friendbuy point of contact should have provided you with the new Theme name for you to select accordingly.

Step 4

Congratulations! You've now made all of the required updates to push all of the changes live. Click Publish Changes on the top right-hand corner of the screen to set your changes live!
