Email Types for Your Referral Program

Friendbuy enables sending four unique email types within each Referral Campaign flow. First, design your program's emails in the Emails section > then assign an email to the desired Referral Campaign > within Emails tab > click the (+) button next to each type to select an available email.

Referral Email Description

Advocate Share Email

A referred Friend will receive this email inviting them to earn an incentive for completing your referral flow's conversion event - typically by entering their email address address in a widget or by completing a purchase or sign up event. The email is triggered by an Advocate when they share their Friend's email address.

When a Friend receives this email in their inbox it will appear it is coming from the Advocate, on behalf of your brand. It is a best practice to include a personalized Advocate Share message in the email body using Friendbuy's merge variables.

Advocate Share Reminder Email

If a referred Friend does not complete your referral flow's conversion event within 3 days of the initial share, the Advocate Share Email will be re-sent to remind them.

Note: the Reminder email will be a copy of the original Share email with a slightly modified subject line including the word 'Reminder:' - currently the Reminder email is not customizable.

Friend Incentive Email

A referred Friend will receive this email after they complete your referral flow's conversion event. The email should contain the Friend Incentive - typically a coupon code or gift card - by including Friendbuy's merge variables in the email body.

When a Friend receives this email in their inbox it will appear it is coming from your brand's email address.

Advocate Reward Email

An Advocate will receive this email once a referred Friend completes your referral flow's conversion event - typically a purchase or sign up event. The email should contain the Advocate Reward - typically a coupon code or gift card - by including Friendbuy's merge variables in the email body.

When an Advocate receives this email in their inbox it will appear it is coming from your brand's email address.

Advocate Thanks for Sharing Email

An Advocate will receive this email after they share with a Friend for the first time through the email channel only. The email is typically used to share a note of appreciation and to include an Advocate's PURL to encourage them to share again.

If an Advocate shares through other channels (PURL, SMS or Social) the email will not be triggered. And if the same Advocate has already received a Thanks for Sharing email through one of your other Friendbuy campaigns, they will not receive another Thanks for Sharing email.

Note: A/B test variants are not offered for this email, which means if your campaign's Reward or Incentive offer changes, be cognizant to update the email content so it remains accurate.

Expiration Reminder Email

If you are rewarding customers with Account Credit or Points managed by Friendbuy's ledger, and the customer has credits or points set to expire within the given month, then they will receive this email on the first of that month (9 AM merchant time) notifying them of the credits (or points) and corresponding expiration date.

Each email is customizable within the HTML email editor. Add an Email Name, Subject Line, Text Body, and HTML Body in the required fields, then click Create Email.

If you are editing an existing email, be sure to click Save Changes or Publish Changes so the updates will take effect on any assigned campaign(s).

Note: You can use the Preview and Send Test Email options to check the email design will be delivered to the customer as intended.
