Shopify Checkout Extensibility

If your transitioning to Shopify Checkout Extensibility, please be aware of the following important updates and adjustments:

  • New Tracking Method: Shopify has shifted its purchase tracking system to Pixel Tracking.
  • Currency Tracking: With Pixel Tracking, the system cannot access the admin currency for a purchase. Instead, it automatically uses the store's local currency.
Shopify Checkout Extensibility is only available on Shopify Plus plans. To learn more about upgrading to Checkout Extensibility please read Shopify's Checkout Extensibility Guide
If you are using Shopify Markets, we encourage you not to upgrade your Thank you and Order status pages to Shopify Checkout Extensibility as this uses Pixel tracking and no admin currency is collected. This could cause issues as different stores, in different markets, could be using different currencies. If you have additional questions, please contact your Customer Success Manager or support@friendbuy.com.

Setting up a Checkout Reward Redemption Widget in Friendbuy:

Points Redemption

The instructions below are for Loyalty programs that are Points based.
  1. In Friendbuy, on the left toolbar, select General under the Loyalty dropdown menu.
    1. Here you will set the Maximum Points Balance a Customer can have.
    2. The Max Points Balance can only be raised. If you would like to lower the Maximum Points Balance, please contact your Customer Success Manager or support@friendbuy.com.
  2. Select Redeeming Points tab. You will find two options for Points Redemption. On the Redeem Points Using Checkout Widget option, click Select.
  1. Enter your desired redemption exchange rate and the maximum amount that can be redeemed in a single transaction.

  1. Choose if you wish to allow users to combine their points with other rewards. Gift Cards are stackable, but Coupon Codes are not.
  2. After making your selections, click Save Changes, and then Next Steps.
  3. Next you will need to go into your Shopify account and build out the Checkout Extension.

Credit Redemption

  3. Here you’ll see the option to set up Redeem Credits using Checkout Widget. Click Select

  1. Enter the maximum amount that can be redeemed in a single transaction.

Setting up Checkout Reward Redemption Widget in Shopify:

  1. Start by logging into your Shopify Admin Account.
  2. In the Shopify Admin page, select Settings located at the bottom left corner.

  1. Click Checkout on the left tool bar. There will be a card for Customize your checkout. In this section, click Customize.

  1. On the left side, under Sections, find the Order Summary section. There, access Discounts followed by the Checkout Widget.
  2. First we will confirm that you have set up a redemption exchange value in Friendbuy. This is a crucial step to ensure proper function of points redemption. (If you are using Account Credit, this is not applicable)
  3. Each field comes with a default value. If you leave a field blank, this default value will be displayed to users.
  4. Select Widget State to preview. This will enable you to see the different states of the checkout widget:
    1. No points redeemed
    2. Points redeemed
    3. Logged Out
    4. Loading
  5. If you are using a Purchase Based system with Account Credit, please change all values in the Checkout Widget. The default is points.
  6. When you are finished with your setup, click Save Changes at the bottom of the app settings.
  7. If you wish to delete the widget from your checkout, click Remove app from checkout at the bottom of the app settings.
