How to Promote Your Referral Program via SMS (Through Klaviyo)

Drive more referrals and increase revenue by inviting your customers to refer their friends & family after they've made a purchase.

  1. In your Klaviyo account navigate to Flows on the left side menu

  1. Click Build Your Own
  1. Name your flow - Example: Post Purchase - Refer A Friend

  1. Select the Metric flow trigger on the right side menu
  1. Select the trigger Fulfilled Order.
If you have a Delivered metric, best practice would be to use this instead so you can ensure the product has been delivered before requesting a referral.
  1. Setup a Time Delay. Under the Timing Action select Time Delay and drag this action under the Trigger module. Click Set up time delay and then enter the desired time delay. Example below: 10 days
  1. Setup a Conditional Split. Not all of your customers will have a referral link attached to their subscriber profile. So, send two separate texts; one that goes to subscribers with a referral link and one that goes to subscribers without a referral link, linking to your refer-a-friend landing page. Under Logic on the left-hand side, drag the Conditional Split module under the time delay.
  2. Click set up conditional split and select Properties about someone from the dropdown.
  3. Then, select Friendbuy Referral Link from the dropdown (you can start typing Friendbuy ref...in the search bar) and then select Is Set
  1. Drag the SMS action under the Conditional Split module. Then click Set Up SMS under the YES logic.
  1. Next, add your content and then click Add personalization. Start typing friendbuy refer...in the search bar and then select Friendbuy Referral Link from the dropdown. This will dynamically insert the customer's personal referral link if it is available within their subscriber profile.
  2. Then configure your SMS content for the text you're going to send to customers who do not have a referral link available on their profile. You can simply link them directly to your refer-a-friend landing page, like the example below: www.friendbuy.com/refer.
  1. Once you've configured your flow, click Review and Turn On

  1. Get ready to drive more referrals and revenue! 🚀
