How to Prompt a Referral After a Positive Review with Friendbuy and Trustpilot (via Braze)

Overview

Leverage integrations with Trustpilot, Braze, and Friendbuy to invite customers to refer friends after they’ve submitted a positive product review. Customers who leave strong reviews are highly engaged and more likely to become advocates. Consider offering an enhanced reward for this audience to increase referral participation.

Step 1: Export Customers with Positive Reviews from Trustpilot

  1. Log in to your Trustpilot Business account.
  2. Navigate to Reviews > Product Reviews.
  3. Filter by Star Rating and select Great and Excellent.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click the blue Export button to download the list of customers.

A CSV file containing the selected reviewers will download to your computer.

Step 2: Import Reviewers into Braze

Once the CSV has been generated in Trustpilot, review the file and confirm which fields you would like to import into Braze. At minimum, you will need email address. You may also include first name, last name, review rating, product name, or review date for personalization.

Import the CSV

  1. Log in to your Braze Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Audience > Import Users.
  3. Select Attributes or Events
  4. Upload your Trustpilot CSV file.
  5. Map the CSV columns to the appropriate Braze user attributes.
    • Map email to the Email field.
    • Map any additional columns to existing or custom attributes.
  6. Review the import settings and confirm.
  7. Start the import.

Braze will notify you once the import is complete.

Step 3: Create a Segment for Positive Reviewers

After the import is complete, create a segment to target this audience.

  1. Navigate to Audience > Segments.
  2. Click Create Segment.
  3. Add filters such as:
    • Email address exists
    • Any custom attribute tied to the import such as review rating equals 4 or 5
  4. Save and name your segment for example Trustpilot Positive Reviewers – Referral Prompt.

This segment will be used as the audience for your referral message.

Step 4: Configure Your Dedicated Refer-a-Friend Message in Braze

You can send this as a one-time campaign or incorporate it into a Canvas flow. A one-time campaign is most common when using manual CSV uploads.

Create an Email Campaign

  1. Navigate to Campaigns.
  2. Click Create Campaign.
  3. Select Email as your channel.
    • Optionally add SMS if desired.
  4. Choose One-Time Campaign.
  5. Select your previously created segment as the target audience.

Design the Email

  1. Choose the Drag-and-Drop Editor or your preferred editor.
  2. Select a template from your library or start from scratch.
  3. Design the email and include:
    • A thank you for their recent positive review
    • A clear call-to-action
    • A button linking to your Friendbuy Refer-a-Friend Landing Page
  4. Personalize using attributes such as first name where available.

Configure Settings and Send

  1. Review subject line and preview text.
  2. Configure sending settings such as send time and frequency caps.
  3. Use the preview and test tools to validate personalization and links.
  4. Schedule or send the campaign.

Best Practices

  • Offer an enhanced incentive for this audience to increase participation.
  • Keep the message appreciative and celebratory.
  • Highlight how easy it is to refer friends.
  • Ensure your Friendbuy landing page reward messaging aligns with the email.

Once scheduled or sent, your referral prompt is live and ready to convert satisfied customers into advocates.
