How to Search for a Customer’s Referral Link in the Friendbuy Platform

Samantha Brown Updated by Samantha Brown

Overview

Merchants can easily look up customer referral links within the Customer Lookup tool in Friendbuy. This feature helps customer service teams quickly retrieve referral information to share with customers or troubleshoot account-related questions.

Use Case:

When a customer asks, “What’s my referral link?” or “Can you resend my code?”, always check the PURLs tab first — you’ll find their referral links ready to share.

Step 1: Navigate to the Customer Lookup Tool

  1. In your Friendbuy account go to Customer Service > Customer Lookup.

Step 2: Choose a Search Method

  1. In the search bar you can lookup a customer by:
  • Email Address
  • Customer ID
  • Order ID
  • Coupon/Gift Code
For referral link lookups, Email Address is the most common option.

Step 3: Enter the Customer Information

  1. Type the customer’s details (e.g., their email) into the search bar and click the search icon. - Example: samantha@friendbuy.com
  2. Press Enter or click the search icon.

Step 4: View Customer Profile

After the search, the customer’s profile will load, showing key details such as:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Customer ID
  • Loyalty opt-in status
  • Points balance (if applicable)
  • Birthday (if provided)

Step 5: Navigate to the PURLs Tab

  1. In the customer profile, click on the PURLs tab.
  2. A table will display all referral links associated with that customer.

Example Table:

  • If a referral link already exists:
It will appear in the table under the corresponding campaign.
  • If the customer has never shared a referral link:
Friendbuy automatically generates referral links for the customer across all active campaigns. This ensures every customer always has a shareable referral link.
Each referral entry includes both a referral code and a referral link (PURL).
    • The referral code is a short identifier for the customer.
    • The referral link (PURL) embeds this code into a shareable URL.
    Example:
    • Referral Code: samanthasamuels3
    • Referral Link (PURL): https://fbuy.io/poppyco/samanthasamuels3

In this case, the referral link is just the referral code placed at the end of the campaign’s base URL.
When Samantha shares her referral link, anyone who clicks it is automatically tied back to her referral code.

    Table Fields Explained

Each row in the table shows:

  • Campaign Name – The campaign the referral is tied to.
  • Campaign ID – Internal identifier for the campaign.
  • PURL – The customer’s unique referral link.
  • Referral Code – The referral code tied to the referral link
